There are two parts to this question: our inner narratives about self, and our worldview.
Compared to talking about who we are, where we come from, and what we do, many people find it challenging to have clarity on what we stand for, our values, and the thing we’ll always be improving on to serve our audience. Especially for personal brand, getting to know our core values and beliefs is an crucial point of connection with the others who value and believe the same.
The other important questions to consider are: why are we doing this? And why should people trust us? Being honest with ourselves and transparent about the way we go about it help people understand our work and connect.
Telling a story isn’t hard, but telling a story that builds trust is what a brand story is meant to do - the challenge that brands face today. But before we ask the other people to trust us, can we be honest about ourselves? Preaching alone doesn’t work in today’s world without actions to back us up. When we find it’s challenging to walk our talk, can we identify the issues and be honest about it?
With honesty and transparency, we don’t need much branding work to gain traction, but simply share the truth about us.
