the counterintuitive common sense

It's a big deal to know it's OK that people don't choose what we choose.

It's OK that people disagree with us.

It's OK that others don't want what we want.

And it's OK to be wrong.

When we have alleviated the pressure to have others agree, we can let go of the need to be right.

Being wrong is an opportunity to learn what's possible and how to improve. Making mistakes isn't a problem, but what we do afterward makes a difference.

Instead of teaching the simple concepts of right and wrong, success and failure, our schools can teach and demonstrate that making mistakes is a part of the learning norms, and failure has little to do with the outcome, but stop trying.
