remarkable

My kid’s school sent out a survey wanting to know if parents would recommend them to other families – if they are remarkable.

I learned the meaning of the word in Seth Godin’s The Marketing Seminar. He talked about Poilâne, the French bakery that doesn’t make baguette but sourdough bread. I have never been to the their stores in Europe, but learned that, if I pay extra, they would ship the bread to my home here in the US. I was curious enough to look them up wanting to be a part of the tribe.

This is how remarkable works.

The bakery left an impression that’s overwhelming enough for Seth to remark in his seminar. Tens of thousands of students (including me) heard the story and learned about their brand.

For my next trip to Paris, would I stop by and visit Poilâne? You bet I would.

Build a remarkable business. And the words will spread.
