performance connection

Performance is not only limited to the stage. It happens in our lives.

The first time I heard this term was from my editor, B. She talks about the concept through a movie called Wine Country.

Brené Brown (appeared as herself in Wine Country) takes the concept to the next level in her book, Atlas of the Heart, where she said, “on the surface, the near enemies of emotions or experiences might look and even feel like connection, but ultimately they drive us to be disconnected from ourselves and from each other. Without awareness, near enemies become the practices that fuel separation, rather than practice that reinforce the inextricable connection of all people.”

We see performance connection that’s driven by disconnection, performance non-judgment that’s driven by judgement, and performance listening that’s driven by not-listening, etc. etc.

The driving force of disconnection, judgment and not-listening might be challenging to see because it might be rooted in our subconscious.

Until we learn to see, it’s possible that we perform connection while having a deeper belief that actually drives disconnection between us at the same time.
