Holding back is a natural reaction for adults who were taught about the risk of giving it all in our childhood. “When giving you all, you will be asked to give more”. We were warned.
Nobody talked about the consequence we would face when holding back: the emotions that didn’t come through inside us, the conversations that didn’t happen, the reality that could’ve been different, and our true self was buried, deeply down somewhere in the earth...
There is no leading in holding back. Regrets maybe.
It’s possible that things can be different. Our emotions turned into empathy for ourselves and the others. The conversations lead to connection. We live in a reality that serves us better. And best of all, we get to be who we truly are.
Leading might not be a heroic act after all. Being who we were born to be is leading by itself.
