Pushing back is an essential part of coaching. When someone pushes back on what we do, we have an opportunity. Pushing back helps us see things we don't know or haven't considered. In many ways, pushing back helps.
But pushing back can create issues, too. When we are pushed back to deny who we are or how we access our inner connections and resources, not only is this not helpful, but it also creates doubt in the relationship.
The cornerstone of coaching should be accepting that people come in all sizes and forms. Because we are all here to be seen, heard, and understood, learning about the people we set out to serve helps us in the long run.
