flag football

My son played the flag football since spring this year. It is a non-contact sport that gets really popular among children. For the past 2 seasons, he experienced 2 coaching styles. The first was do-as-they-are-told while the second was find-you-own-strength and commit to it.

When he played as being told, his team lost most of the games. The kids were busy following the constraints and didn't play together.

His second team was very different where his coach figured out a balance between respecting player’s personal interest and the needs of the team, and built strategies around that for every game.

For the first 3 games, their team outperformed the opponent every single time. But more importantly, my son loves his new team so much that he is motivated to be a better player all around. What else could a parent ask for from a sport?

Two different coaching styles, drastic different results.
